The eye-glowing (depicted as a mysterious beam of light across the eyes) is borrowed from how Bela Lugosi ‘s Dracula and Morticia Addams’ eyes were lit. In-universe it would be a subtler thing; though if noticed, it’s a sure sign that someone is a vampire.

The light doesn’t come out of the eyes; it’s just there, lit from somewhere.
