A message from me: Yeah!! Heylo! LOL I didn’t anticipate the May Madness of events to take up so much of my time and energy. I am properly actually totally back now – TCM Book 2 is out of hiatus!!
My two panels on Making History Fiction Webcomics and Comics Studies are up on the Cartoonists United Youtube. There is a wealth of recordings from past panels as well.

The following morning is a bustle of last minute activity as the workshop prepares for Zeynel’s departure. He emerges from his room dressed in a blue turban and a long yellow kaftan, over an all-black outfit and a cream long-sleeved undershirt. At the main door, he checks on his mule and camel, making sure that every luggage is accounted for, and that his animal companions are healthy.
Spotting his ward, he waves her towards him. “Safiye, come here.”
He places his hands gently over hers, and bends down to match their heights. He says to her, in a fatherly voice: “Don’t forget what I told you yesterday. Don’t worry, alright? Be good, and listen to Ayse.”
Behind her shoulder, his eyes catch Ayse’s some distance away. Instantly, his face is lit up.
He pulls Ayse into his clingy embrace, almost sweeping her off her feet. “My rose. Don’t leave me. I’m already missing you!”
Ayse giggles at the sugary sweetness. “Eee, stop!”
In a more serious tone, he speaks to her quietly, “Take care, okay? I promise to return soon with a hundred carpets. So sell more of what we have now to make room.”
Ayse snorts. “Hah! Be careful, challenging me like that. You might discover the whole shop empty whenever you’re back.”
Before he could reply, she pulls him in for a farewell kiss. Then pushes him away teasingly.
“Now scram! Go away! We can’t miss you if you’re still here!”
With that sweet, parting message, Zeynel leaves the workshop, brimming with joy and good feelings – ready for the wild, delightful world that is the city of Istanbul.
