That jacket’s colour and pattern ended up becoming such a core piece of Zeynel’s standard attire (clothes that I assign to characters that they wear in key art).
The jacket represents the point when Zeynel has finally embraced the idea of becoming a carpet merchant… and his future with Ayse.

On the afternoon before his family’s departure, Zeynel is given a special showing by Ayse and Selim, to show him what a carpet merchant can really do. Putting on their best show, they present to him the carpets of their family and friends. Behold, wonder in awe at this masterpiece. Indulge your eyes with a sumptuous exploration of its colours. Carpet after carpet. Zeynel studies each one with scholarly interest.
At the end of the show, Selim gifts to Zeynel a short coat, dyed in a special red that looks almost like purple, and painted with flowers in a darker hue. Wearing it, Zeynel looks as much a part of the family as Ayse and Selim are, in their traditional embroidered handmade outfits. It is official now: he has become one of them.
